Gospel Resources for African-Americans
A special welcome to all visitors of African heritage! This page contains links to African-American churches and ministries, as well as Bibles, stories and websites written in the languages of Africa which tell about Jesus and His love for the peoples of Africa.

Many followers of Jesus are praying that God will bless the African peoples, and some of the links on this page have information to help them learn more about African languages and cultures.

Thank you for visiting. May the grace and peace of God be yours today!

Bibles in the Languages of Africa
Bibles in Your Language will help you find sources for online, print and audio Bibles in 250 languages, including many African languages.

Facts about African-Americans
The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that 35 million people of African American heritage are living in the U.S. in 1999. This is 12.8 percent of the total population.

This number includes people with many different heritage languages from many original countries of origin.

The U.S. Census Bureau has mapped where Black Americans live.

More information is available from the Census Bureau as detailed in their list of publications on The Black Population in the U.S..

The Population Reference Bureau publishes articles analyzing data and trends from the 2000 USA Census.

For more information, please look for specific people groups in our master indexes:

Christian researcher, George Barna, has conducted surveys of African Americans and published a book of his findings, including these facts:

- 21% of the African American population is unchurched, compared to 32% of whites.

- Compared to 68% of whites, 83% of blacks say their religious faith is very important in their lives.

- About half (51%) of African Americans are born again Christians.

An online brochure, "Working with African Americans," has been published by the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The brochure is in PDF format, so in order to read it you will need Adobe Acrobat software, available at the site for free.

African American Churches
One purpose of this website is to equip churches for outreach to African-born students and immigrants living in America. One Ethiopian pastor told me that he feel that first-generation Africans are "invisible" to most Americans. Because so many Americans are of African-American heritage, recent immigrants may not "look like foreigners" to those in their community. Consequently, no one may reach out to welcome them or to invite them to church and share Christ with them.

Who Lives in Your State? will help you learn the ethnic origin of people in your community.

The African-Methodist Episcopal Church began in 1787 with a handful of people of African descent in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and now claims a membership of three million strong on four continents. This website offers a good directory to websites of their churches across America.

Missions

Christian Network Links for Africa contains a collection of links to information on African churches, missions, music and more.

I Go Ministries/Africa is working to unify the Body of Christ with the common purpose of praying to declare Africa for Jesus and working on various projects to bless the people of Africa.

The 4 Spiritual Laws is a gospel tract available online in many of the languages of Africa. It is published by Campus Crusade for Christ.

These Bible portions tell the story of Jesus based on the eyewitness accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

GotQuestions.org answers basic questions about Christianity in many languages including Afrikaans, Arabic, Swahili, and Zulu.

The Reconciliation Network, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, works cross-culturally to mobilize the Body of Christ, especially the African American church, for ministry.
