People Group Info
|
Has your church "adopted" a specific people group? Are representatives of that group living in North America? We hope this information will help you begin developing friendships and sharing Christ right here at home! A major focus of our ministry at Ethnic Harvest is to research sources for foreign language Bibles, gospel tracts, videos and books. Follow the links below to find resources for the following groups:
We also link to sources for online, audio and print Bibles in 250 languages. Notes on Developing People-Group Lists
The Ethnologue, however, describes over 6,700 languages (and lists many more). For our purposes, a summarized list was in order. We found a list compiled by the University of the State of New York for their State Department of Education, which we've used as the starting point for our master lists referenced above. We have published a list of the top 50 languages spoken in the U.S., compiled from the 1990 U.S. Census. Click here for more information on immigration trends. * Back to Web or Site Search

Links to organizations with information on peoples and cultures The Caleb Project offers excellent links to mission sites with information on specific people groups. People Groups. info offers a free database of North American People Groups, including Census 2000 information for country of birth, ancestry, and language by zip codes, counties, cities, and states. Another useful secular resource is the index of Race and Ethnicity Resources on the American Studies Web, with information on Africa Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, Latinos and Chicanos, as well as general race and ethnic resources. OMF International has been sharing the gospel with the millions of people in East Asia since its beginning over a century ago as the China Inland Mission. Their online site offers information on people groups in Cambodia, China, Japan, Korea, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. The mission of World Harvest Now is "to facilitate the planting of Cell Group Churches among the least evangelized people in or near the 10/40 Window." Their site includes information on people groups in Afghanistan, China, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and United Arab Emirates. The Christian and Missionary Alliance lists information on unreached people groups with representatives in the U.S. and Canada, including Francophone Canadians, Urban American Indians, Pueblo Indians, and others. |
